Plan Your Weekend Getaway

Spend the weekend with us in Monroe-West Monroe.

Arrive Friday afternoon and explore the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens where a cold bottle of Coke is just a nickel. Grab a seat at the soda counter in the Coke Museum and step back in time with a soda jerk to find out how America’s favorite drink made its way into a bottle. Then tour the Biedenharn family home and beautiful ELSong gardens. End your time at the Biedenharn with a tour of the Bible Museum with rare Bibles, religious artifacts, and other beautiful exhibits.

Make your way to Landry Vineyards, located in the rolling hills of West Monroe. You’ll meet Jeff and Libby Landry as you tour the vineyard and their bottling facility. Enjoy samples Landry wines while taking in the views from their beautifully situated Tasting Room.

Check into your hotel and then head out to dinner at one of over 100 locally owned and flavored restaurants. Enjoy dinner with a great view of the Ouachita River at Trapp’s or SQ’s on the Ouachita. Or enjoy one of Monroe’s newest spots, Braiz’n Bar and Grill. Order the Elotes or Mexican Street Corn. (You won’t regret it!)

Any good Saturday starts with a good breakfast. And that’s what you’ll find at Miss Kay’s Sweets and Eats. With breakfast sandwiches, yogurt parfaits and an entire menu of caffeinated beverages! Make your way to Black Bayou Lake NWR and get up close and personal with nature from a canoe as you paddle around the bayou. Then get ready for some high flying adventure at the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum with stories of war heroes and more. Discover the beginnings of Delta Airlines and explore their newest exhibit, Way of a Fighter, which shares the story of General Chennault and his Flying Tigers.

We’ve still got plenty to choose when lunch time rolls around. Grab a BBQ plate from Danken Trail or some thin fried catfish at Catfish Charlie’s.

Then prepare yourself for a little retail therapy along historic Antique Alley. This shopping district is known for classic antique shops and unique boutique stores. You’ll find it all in Downtown West Monroe. And if you aren’t a big shopper, then take the new, self-guided Historic Downtown Walking Tour.

Enjoy dinner at one of our downtown restaurants like Roma’s Italian Bistro or Warehouse No. 1. Then unwind a bit at one of our local breweries, Ouachita Brewing Company or Flying Tiger Brewery and enjoy a local brew.

Before heading home, settle in for brunch at Bayou Roux, with Chef Blake Phillips, or Cotton, located in Downtown Monroe.
