Gun Control Agents Are Shooting Blanks
It is not about protecting us!
Sen. Dianne Feinstein is at it again, trying to ban AR-type rifles, errantly calling them “assault rifles.” This comes at about the same time former Vice President Joe Biden declares the hero of Sutherland Springs, Texas, should not have been able to acquire the AR-15 he used to confront the church shooter.
Describing an AR-15 as an assault rifle is political terminology conjured up to promote gun control. AR does not stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.” It stands for ArmaLite rifle, a semi-automatic weapon with a 30-round magazine.
The AR ban Biden and Feinstein made law in 1994 ran for 10 years, and did nothing to reduce gun violence or the overall crime rate.
If empty promises and failure are the goals, Biden and Feinstein are great
Feinstein is the same senator who once admitted she carries a pistol for self-defense because she was the target of terrorist violence in San Francisco. Apparently what is good for her — the exercise of her Second Amendment right — is not good for us.
Quite often, when members of Congress hold news conferences to announce their latest legislation to prevent law abiding citizens access to guns, they are surround by armed Capitol Hill police and other armed body guards.
Congressional leaders enjoy armed security most everywhere they travel. Top Democrats, who push gun control routinely, have their own security details, including Feinstein, Sens. Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin, and Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer.
Protection for these people is understandable. They are at greater risk than the average citizen. However, it is beyond ironic, approaching hypocrisy, for all these Democrat leaders to demand public-financed security for themselves and their families while they buck the polls by pushing gun control on law-abiding citizens.
It is comparable to them demanding we buy inferior health insurance while they enjoy Cadillac plans at our expense. Congressional representatives enjoy a 72 percent subsidy, driving their premiums very low. They also enjoy a range of free medical services. Is it any wonder Congress appears unwilling to repeal and replace Obamacare?
Time and again Congress ignores all the credible studies that conclude an AR ban will do nothing to stop mass shootings. Those shooters have frequently obtained weapons and accessories illegally.
Chicago continues setting records for homicide even with the strictest gun control measures in place. You cannot purchase a gun from a dealer in this country without a federal background check. Remember this the next time a Democrat starts calling for background checks.
Still, Democrats pretend that gun control works, that gun control is good policy, that gun control is necessary, and that their only motive is trying to save lives.
If Democrats ever achieve it, gun control may help save their lives, but politicians will have put the rest of us in harm’s way while killers still have access to illegal weapons.
And by then, we’ll need health insurance all the more, but thanks to Congress, insurance will also be out of legal reach — and we’ll be at greater risk than ever.
